How to write a strong introduction for yourself

When employers browse the list of workers on Anisya, the first impression you make in your introduction will determine if you get an interview request.  This is your one opportunity to stand out from among hundreds of other profiles to make a positive impression, so do take a few minutes to compose a strong introduction.

Your introduction should definitely include the following key elements, and you can tailor the length and style accordingly:

  • Start with a greeting
  • Quick overview of yourself (age, family, why are you working as an FDW?)
  • Your strengths (mention all relevant qualifications)
  • Any particular tasks you’re not prepared to do (e.g. you’re afraid of dogs, don’t know how to handle babies)
  • Your reason for leaving current employer
  • End on a positive note

Here’s an example of a short introduction:

Greetings! I am Anna, 37 years old from the Philippines and a mother of 3 children. I have been working in Singapore for 8 years. I am good at taking care of children and elderly. I can cook simple dishes and i can follow recipes. I have experience with cats and dogs too. I am finishing my contract on the end of October this year and i am looking for a new family to work with. My current employer can be contactable for a reference and I look forward to hearing from you.

And here’s an example of a slightly longer one:

Dear Employers, I’m Siti, 30 years old from Indonesia with 4 years experience in Singapore with a Chinese family. I’m fluent in written and spoken English and speak basic Mandarin. I am an independent worker who needs little supervision and am able to coordinate marketing, cooking & domestic chores. I am able to cook most Asian dishes and some Western too. I can handle kids from infant to teenage years. I can entertain well to kids and I also discipline wayward kids with tact.

I have a certificate in Caregiving for the Elderly (provided by ABC Healthcare Training Institute).

I look forward to an interview with you in person.

Thank you.
